The chairman of the Financial Group’s Board of Directors, Carlos Hank González, stressed that the most important thing for the Mexican economy is to maintain its relationship with its main trading partner.

“We are fortunate to be living in a time of significant growth and enormous, solid integration between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The opportunity we have with nearshoring is extraordinary,” Hank said at a meeting with the media.

The banker pointed out that despite the Republican’s protectionist rhetoric, which has threatened Mexico with tariffs, the issue can be resolved through dialogue.

“I think the most important thing to highlight is that Mexico is a trading partner of the United States. We have always had a business relationship, a neighborly relationship; we are neighbors who work and collaborate together. We have done so in the past with President Trump himself, and Mexico continues to move forward,” he said.

He highlighted that Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration is sending signals of support and confidence to the business sector, which strengthens the country’s economic outlook.

Just days into her term, Sheinbaum has already convened business leaders, demonstrating her willingness to collaborate and create an environment of certainty for investment, Hank González noted in a meeting with the media.

On the occasion of Banorte’s 125th anniversary, the banker emphasized that Mexico is experiencing a period of growth driven by its strong trade relationship with the United States and Canada.

He added that the recent election of Donald Trump as US president also provides “certainty” about the future of trade cooperation, which will favor economic stability and investment in the country.

Hank González praised the new president’s openness, comparing her to her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with whom he said he had a “close, open, and transparent relationship.”

Carlos Hank González says Banorte is open to competition
He also emphasized that, following a meeting with Sheinbaum a few weeks after she took office, business leaders were optimistic about the president’s interest in strengthening relations with the private sector.

Addressing the phenomenon of nearshoring, he highlighted that Mexico has an “extraordinary” opportunity to attract investment thanks to its proximity to the US market.

“This is a unique moment,” said Hank González, noting that Banorte is committed to supporting its customers and contributing to the infrastructure needed to take advantage of this competitive edge.

Finally, the president of Banorte welcomed competition in the Mexican financial system, highlighting that his institution is continually adapting and staying at the forefront.
