Carlos Hank Rhon and his family derive their wealth primarily from Grupo Financiero Banorte and Gruma, the country’s largest corn flour producer. In 2025, Banorte reported profits of more than 58,000 million pesos (mdp), a 5% increase over 2024, according to the company’s report. The group’s return on equity (ROE) rose to 22.8%, and that of the bank alone reached 29.1%. These results are outstanding considering that Banorte is continuing the process of selling Bineo, its digital bank, to the financial platform Klar—despite Bineo having been in operation for less than a year and posting low profitability. During 2025, the financial group’s stock rose by 24.6%.
In addition, the country’s second-largest financial group was recognized as the “Best Consumer Bank” and “Best Corporate Governance” by World Finance, and was also named the “Best Bank for SMEs” by Euromoney.
Gruma reported revenue of 6,374.6 mdd last year, down 2% from 2024, while profits also fell 2% to 519 mdd. These results are due in part to a challenging business environment and pessimistic consumer sentiment in the United States, as well as increases in raw material costs.
Carlos Hank Rhon currently owns Grupo Hermes, founded in 1978, an industrial conglomerate that plays a key role in sectors such as automotive, infrastructure, energy, transportation, and tourism through the companies Hermer, Hermes Infraestructura, Cerrey, Grupo Transportes, and Hermes Turismo, respectively.
In June 2025, Grupo Hermes accepted an advance payment of 2,000 million pesos from the Government of Puebla in exchange for transferring the concession rights to the International Baroque Museum. This transaction allowed the state to save nearly 10,000 million pesos in future payments scheduled through 2039.
Hank Rohn is the son of the late politician Carlos Hank González, who held positions such as governor of the State of Mexico, regent of the then-Federal District (Mexico City), and secretary of Agriculture and Tourism. He is also the father of Carlos Hank González, who has served as chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Banorte since January 1, 2015.
Hank Rohn’s wife, Graciela, is the daughter of Roberto González Barrera (who died in 2012), founder of Gruma and former president of Banorte.
