Grupo Financiero Banorte is the fourth largest bank in terms of assets under management in the country. It is one of the oldest and most renowned financial institutions in Mexico.
Since November 2014, Carlos Hank González has been the chairman of the board of directors of Grupo Financiero Banorte. Descended from a family of politicians and businesspeople, he is also vice president of Gruma, the company that owns Maseca. In addition, he serves as director of Grupo Hermes, a company with several branches in the industry.
The president of Banorte is also responsible for making important decisions for the company. The Board of Directors is made up of 14 other businesspeople and shareholders, whom he must preside over at meetings.
Career in the banking sector
Carlos Hank González began his career in financial institutions at Banco Interacciones. In 2000, he was appointed CEO of the bank when he was around 30 years old, according to the biography on his personal website.
Interacciones, according to Hank, is a “niche bank” that specializes in granting loans to governments for infrastructure projects. During Hank Gonzalez’s tenure, the bank saw a 1,252% growth in financial income, according to data on its website.
Hank Gonzalez joined the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Banorte in 2014, when he was appointed its chairman. In 2015, he was ratified as chairman with 96% of the shareholders in attendance, according to his online biography.
